If your balloon flight is cancelled

If your balloon morning is officially cancelled, or your operator cancels your flight, SkyPlan switches that day to its Plan B with indoor places first, and offers your flight again on your backup morning, only if you approve. What happens to your booking depends on your operator’s terms: check them before you change anything; we never change a booking for you.

Who cancels a flight

Whether balloons may take off is decided with a red, yellow or green flag for each sector and time window, set under the rules of Turkey’s civil aviation authority (SHGM) and published by the Kapadokya Slot Service Center (Kapadokya Slot Hizmet Merkezi, SHM), Kapadokya University, operating under SHGM authorisation. Under a red or yellow flag no balloon may take off (SHT-OPS-B, Article 24).

A green flag allows a flight but does not order one: the operator and the pilot make the final decision, so an operator can still cancel on a green morning (Article 24; the board’s wording, read 16 Oct 2026).

A red flag can be given the day before; otherwise the decision is made on the day of the flight, before take-off time (Article 23). More in how balloon flights are decided.

Why SkyPlan keeps a backup morning

Balloons fly at sunrise, so a balloon morning needs a night in Cappadocia before it. SkyPlan puts your flight on an early morning of the trip so that a later one stays free as your backup. If you pick a morning yourself, your pick wins.

When your trip has no later balloon morning, your plan says so: add a night to keep one in reserve.

A backup morning is a second chance, not a guarantee: bad weather often lasts several days, so we never add your mornings up into one chance. More in how we pick your balloon morning.

If the balloons don’t fly

How Plan B changes your day

Every plan with a balloon flight has a Plan B for the flight morning, made together with the plan, so it is ready before you need it.

SkyPlan switches to Plan B only on an official cancellation or an operator’s notice, never because of our flight-chance estimate.

On Plan B, the cancelled day starts with indoor places, such as the underground cities, until lunch: the wind or rain that keeps the balloons down can spoil an outdoor walk too.

Your sunset stop, any full-day tour and anything you have booked keep their day and time; only the free time around them is planned again.

Plan B offers to move your flight to your backup morning, only if you approve and on your operator’s terms. If that morning is cancelled too, or your trip has no later morning, Plan B says the flight can’t move within this trip.

Your booking

What happens to your booking depends on your operator’s terms: check them before you change anything; we never change a booking for you.

Your plan may change by itself; your bookings never do. Moving your flight to the backup morning is an offer you decide on with your operator.
