What Çavuşin is like

Çavuşin is a village on the road from Göreme to Avanos. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism names it, with Uçhisar and Göreme, among the places where people carved their homes into the rock.

Beside the road stands the church of Nicephorus Phocas, with tunnel vaults and a high nave, and the Güllüdere church of St Agathangelus lies in the valley of that name, near the village. Our map point for Çavuşin is the church of St John the Baptist, in the cliff of the old village.
